While I agree with replacing systems with goals, I think a second follow-up article showing and demonstrating what those systems look like day to day would enhance your argument even more.

For example, writing everyday no matter the time is still routine. You didn’t really clarify if routine is just bounded to doing a task a specific time of day or just doing the same thing over and over again no matter the time.

So then the question becomes “what is the difference between a system and routine?

A system I have in place to make sure I feel optimal daily is no matter the time, I have to prepare my meals for the next day to avoid several things:

  • Eating out for lunch/spending money
  • Over eating because I didn’t have a meal available

Preparing meals I know is good for me gives me energy and mental clarity to perform at my highest.

Even in this response, you may not see this as a system, but that’s my point — what does a system more in depth look like to you?

I think the article is convincing on less focus on goal setting and unbinding ourselves from routines, but not so much on describing what tangible systems are.
