Toxic Giving: When Giving Goes from Help to Hindrance
Give from the heart. It’s the purest, most impure way to give.
The Lord loves a cheerful a giver. But let me ask you a question: does your giving efforts hinge upon your reputation with God or how people champion your giving heart?
Our heart (not the literal muscle, but the inward belief-moral system) is the well we draw from to perform certain actions. So if your heart is after the things of God, then expectedly you’ll give to please the Lord. If not, then maybe your goal is to be seen as a good person.
Author Robert Lupton wrote the book on Toxic Charity. He list five phases that most people go through when it comes to Toxic Charity:
