“Don’t try this at home/it’s nothing to play with/Enjoy your young life/don’t mess with them gauges cuz/these things blow off tops destroy families…” — from the song “Dough Pildin’ by Prodigy of Mobb Deep

For the sake of innocent parties indirectly involved, I will not mention any names or schools in this essay.

Although this is public knowledge, the purpose of sharing my perspective on this story isn’t to indulge anyone’s entertainment but to highlight that all students need the best of us even when we don’t know what path they will take later.

I wouldn’t label this story as sad as much as I would unfortunate. Occurrences like this are becoming all too common because of a sick culture that influences the youth to indulge in and embrace chaos as a norm.

In 2013, I was a technology paraprofessional who worked in a computer lab at an elementary school.

For the uninitiated, a paraprofessional is an hourly position. These employees support salaried teachers.

During this time students would have technology specials in my classroom. I had each grade level on a rotation once a week.
