I enjoyed Jason Schreier’s books “Blood, Sweat, and Pixels” and “Press Reset” as his work shined a light on the hard work (to burnout) in the video game industry.
I found Eric Barone’s story to be inspiring, but as you mentioned in this article, to be a cautionary tale. I’m sure there were many who celebrated the introverted “trapped in moms basement to success” narrative, but I didn’t put it on a pedestal.
However, his attention to detail in developing the product is the biggest lesson I learned from his pursuit in making Stardew Valley. Kudos to you for this perspective. Hopefully people won’t be so quick to embrace and pedestalize Barone’s journey as their own.
