As a web designer/developer, I have worked "remotely" since 2013 in this profession on my nights and weekends (my day job is a public school teacher).

I say this not because I'm endorsing remote work, but to go an opposite direction: if I had someone more experienced physically nearby that I could shadow, I would be far more advanced in my craft.

It's only so much nuance you can pull from a video tutorial and without being able to ask someone questions arising from what you are learning, gaps in knowledge continue to widen.

Sure there are technological workarounds ( I've had to screen record my confusion on a problem and send it to someone who might be available to help me to gain greater understanding) to physically getting help, but simply interacting with people in person makes this process so much faster and more efficient in my opinion.

I'm for remote work to an extent. When you reach the ceiling of your own understanding and abilities, you will find yourself needing some direct physical connection with others to gain the answers you are looking for and reeeeeeaaaallly stretching your ability.
